Which country of Africa has still maintained its typical African Identity ?
Africa was ( and of course is ) known for old customs and tradition, rituals, herbal medicines, old music (drums), tribal dances, protection of dense forests, traditional weapons , bonfire meals , life in tents etc. … that doesn’t mean they remained backward but those who PREFER to adhere to good old days and honourably call themselves ‘True Africans’.
First Africa is a continent with many diverse cultures and peoples. Therefore there is no one “African identity”. Second what are you implying by the word “typical”? Typical is relative to a persons perspective and is subject to prejudice. I think a better choice of words for this question would be which African nation(s) have/has maintained the most of it’s traditional or ancestral culture? This is hard to say because African nations have gone through different periods and have been occupied by different peoples. It is commonly acknowledged that Ethiopia is regarded as the first civilization. However one must consider today’s geopolitical boundaries didn’t always exist as they are. Therefore what we consider nations were inhibited by many people. I don’t think Africans that have held on to their traditional customs and ancestral heritage throughout the ages have ever swayed too far away from their identity but incorporated it into their modern culture. Also as the previous poster said there still are traditionalists.
